1928 Chevrolet Pickup

The 1928 Chevy Pickup was introduced during a period of heated competition between Chevy and Ford, a competition which continues until today.  This truck is prized for its scarcity, overall ease of repair, and relative low price.

1928 Ford Model A/AA

Announced by Henry Ford in 2,000 full page ads, the Ford Model A/AA landed with a splash.  This truck was the replacement to the hugely successful Model T. The Model A/AA was an immediate success, with the likes of then New York governor Franklin D. Roosevelt begin seen in one.  This car is valued for its historical significance.  It has many fans and it relatively cheap to purchase.

1930-1931 Ford Model A Truck

Many of the changes which were made to the Ford Model A/AA in order to produce the Model A truck were hidden from the eye.  While many of the outer design elements remained the same, the Model A introduced mechanical brakes on all wheels, allowing for better stopping, and a modern gearbox.  The Town Delivery body style is highly sought after.

1937-1938 Studebaker Coupe-Express

Mixing the comfort elements of a car with the practical elements of a truck, the Studebaker Coupe-Express is considered a truck which was ahead of its time.  The Coupe-Express came with a steel frame, and offered many luxuries, such as leather upholstery and chrome bumpers.  The car was not a commercial success at the time of its release, but it has come to be widely appreciated in modern times. Its sheer beauty and revolutionary design makes it a top ten classic truck.

1940 Ford Sedan Delivery

Considered by many connoisseurs as the most beautiful sedan delivery ever, this truck was styled with rounded edges which featured an artistic touch.  This truck offered an 85-hp 221 cubic inch engine, or an economy version at 185 cubic inches at 60-hp.  Collectors love it because of its beauty and strong valuations.

1947 Dodge Canopy Delivery

The Dodge Canopy delivery was a truck which was primarily used for door to door delivery of produce and other commodities.  Its look harkens back to a simpler time, in post-war America.  This truck is valued by collectors for its interesting wood-work and scarcity.

1950 GMC FC101 Pickup

The 1950 GMC FC101 is a beautiful truck.  GMC had redesigned their truck series in 1948, and this truck is a stunning example of the result.  This truck is sought after by collectors as it is more aesthetically appealing than the rival Chevys of the era.

1955 Ford F-100 Pickup

The Ford F-100 Pickup, like the Ford Model A/AA 30 years earlier, became an instant classic.  The appeal of this truck then is the same appeal it has had in the 50+ years since its release: it is built to be tough and rugged.  While the original F-100 was not the most powerful truck on the market, it did set a standard for design which would be copied for decades.  This is where classic trucks get their classic look.  This truck has strong collector interest, though it is not the most powerful truck in its class, and does not have the smoothest ride. This is the king of the top ten classic trucks.

1962 Chevrolet Corvair Truck

A great classic truck should represent its time period well. Perhaps no other truck represents the early 60s quite like the 1962 Chevy Corvair.  This truck was produced with the German rival Volkswagen’s Beetle-based bus in mind.  This truck offers a large open bed, and an air cooled engine. They are highly sought by their fans, but other people may consider them weird looking – which is undoubtedly part of their appeal.

1970 Ford Ranchero

The 1970 Ford Ranchero is a true period piece.  Looking like the melding of a sedan and a truck, this truck lives in the wake of the 1937 Studebaker which was produced 33 years earlier.  The Ranchero is prized because of its versatility.  It can be seen as a truck, muscle truck (car,) or even sedan.  Some versions are difficult to locate.

1968 Pontiac Firebird

This first generation Pontiac muscle car used “coke bottle styling” and an OHC inline-6 engine to achieve its unique look and performance.

1970 Dodge Challenger

The Challenger was designed and built to compete with the Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro by offering comparable styling and power. It was featured in the 1971 motion picture Vanishing Point.

1969 Dodge Charger R/T

The ’69 Charger incorporated the midsize “B-body” design as well as rear-wheel drive. Later generations of the Charger saw less popular variations in body design and performance but the classic first generation design is one about which car aficionados continue to pontificate.

1968 Shelby Mustang GT500

Considered by many to be the “Godfather” of the American muscle car, the ’68 Shelby is a bolder and higher performance variation of the original Ford Mustang. The Shelby was reintroduced in 2007 in an updated version but with a style that stayed true to this first generation model. This car is the very definition of a top ten muscle car.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS

Certain revisions in styling and materials gave this particular Chevelle a different look inside and out than its predecessors. The changes, however, did not compromise the performance which kept Chevelle enthusiasts happy.

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

This particular model year had styling very similar to the previous year but included front and rear fenders which became a federal mandate on all automobiles in 1968.

1971 Dodge Charger Super Bee

The name Super Bee is derived from the aforementioned B-body design that was used on most Chrysler midsize cars. The body was limited to a two-door design and offered both a 335hp Magnum as well as a 425hp Hemi engine.

1969 Pontiac GTO

One of the most renowned muscle cars ever built, the GTO is a classic among classics. It featured a sleek design and a 360hp V8 engine. Though some may overlook this car in their list of top ten muscle cars, it definitely deserves a spot.

1971 Plymouth Cuda

This high-performance edition of the earlier Barracuda models allowed them to rise from the ashes of the stigma of being an economy car and hence not as popular. This Cuda featured Chrysler’s larger E-body design and a 335hp V8 engine standard.

1970 Buick GSX Stage 1

What does this one make it in the top ten muscle cars?  You probably wouldn’t know it to look at them now, but Buick was a force to be reckoned with during the apex of the muscle car era. Their GSX Stage 1 performance car featured a powerful 370hp engine but only 400 total cars were ever built.

In terms of manufacturing, clearly the American muscle car had its heyday in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the most popular models being released during that era. As the 70s waned, so did the manufacture of the muscle car in favor of more practical, luxurious, or fuel efficient models. But the popularity of the classic muscle car never died in America. In fact it only grew, arguably and ironically as a result of being removed from the American assembly line. The resurgence in recent years of certain models like the Dodge Challenger and Charger and the Pontiac GTO is proof positive that the American muscle car, as well as the love affair that car enthusiasts have with them, will never die.

It took us at EMC 8 years to land this GEM. The restoration process involved taking the whole car totally apart with every nut and bolt being addressed. The original dash is perfect and untouched as well as the vin tag as well as the vin on the radiator support along with the vin on top of the cowl on the firewall. The build of the car is Feb 1971 and is complete with the #s matching tranny and rear which are powered by an unstamped block with a casting number of 10/6/70 ….. you be the judge. We have the original fender tag in a safe deposit box which shows that the car is an original J45 Hood pin and J81 Go Wing car which is pretty rare for a convertible. Another cool option is the RX9 Leather front bucket seat feature. The motor tranny and rear have all been rebuilt with only 100 miles of break in time. This is a documented 75k ACTUAL mile car and it certainly runsdrives and rides as one would expect. YES the car is GF7 Sherwood Green and yes it is a D32 A727 Torqueflite automatic but for crying out loud find another like this and its level of QUALITY.
