The All-American Hot Rod
The all-American hot rod is a classic modified car. First seen the 1920′s, a hot rod is a car which is built using different pieces from different cars, with engine being the focal point of the car. The American hot rod has a unique design, with two main design features. First, the engine of the car almost always stands out. The engine is in the front of the vehicle, and is usually uncovered. Because the car is built for speed, the engine from a very fast car is usually incorporated. The second important aspect of the hot rod is beauty. Many people design their hot rod in many different ways, often with flame decals on the side paneling. Each owner adds their style to their hot rod, letting their car’s design speak for itself. Hot rods are loved by many Americans and enthusiasts all around the world, making them a highly desirable collectible.
Hot Rods in History
Hot rods are so integral in American history that it is not uncommon to see a lineup of supped up specimens at any given American fair or festival. In fact, many times the hot rods are the stars of the show. The main thing they were used for in the past is the same reason people use them now, to race them! They are used in races all around the world. When used to just race, going straight, it’s a battle to see who can go fastest. Drivers do not need to know fancy turning maneuvers; they just need to be able to keep the car steady and punch the accelerator. This is one reason that hot rods have survived as a car class for nearly a century, never going out of style. Though interest in hot Rods waxes and wanes, there are always people who are eager to build them. Some people still believe in building the hot rods just as they were built in the early days, with old pieces of other cars. Some people believe in putting brand new pieces to their hot rods. But, the overall style of the 1920’s rods is usually maintained.
Standing the Test of Time
Not many cars have stood the test of both man and time. The hot rod was able to stay as-is in a world of changes. It has even managed to keep its purpose, never being changed to be a family car or a luxury car. This is a testament to the beginnings of the car, which reflected a desire of mechanics and designers to build a beautiful monster. The hot rod has stayed a car to be used for racing, display and collection, and as a car to be brought out only on special occasions. The hot rod is a car most owners fall in love with. Many hot rods stay in families for years, always looking new. It is said that a good rod owner always stays working on their car, making their hot rod a car for eternity.
